Joshua Oltchick, age 26, of West Babylon, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in Suffolk County Court on Tuesday, Nov. 5, after pleading guilty to drug possession and related charges.
Prosecutors said Suffolk County Police officers found Oltchick slumped over behind the steering wheel of his parked car in West Babylon, near 7th Avenue and 15th Street, on Sept. 16, 2023.
The vehicle was facing the wrong direction with its engine still running.
A search of the car turned up over 2,700 pressed fentanyl pills, along with significant amounts of cocaine and amphetamine, all packaged for street-level drug sales, prosecutors said.
Officers also recovered a loaded semiautomatic pistol, along with drug packaging materials, dilutants used to extend the supply of drugs, digital scales, and over $3,300 in cash.
On Wednesday, Oct. 2, Oltchick pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a controlled substance and attempted criminal possession of a weapon. According to prosecutors, he has a prior conviction for illegal drug possession in 2022.
“Every fentanyl pill that this armed prior felon intended to sell in Suffolk County is a potential fatal overdose and, thankfully, our Suffolk County police officer interrupted his crimes with good police work,” said Suffolk County DA Raymond Tierney.
“This ten-year sentence should send the message that we will not tolerate those who sell poison in Suffolk County.”
